One summer night, two friends, Ketill and Eyjólfur, are heading to an isolated farm in a taxi, in search for Herdís, former fiancé of Ketill. He has been abroad all winter and wants to know why she left him the day before his departure, last autumn. Reluctant to face her for fear of what he may find out, he is urged on by Eyjólfur. The course of events takes an unexpected direction.
